School Events

Halloween Party - 20 October 2011

We celebrated Halloween by hosting a Spooky Halloween Party! All the staff and students dressed in costume for the occasion. Students from a local mainstream primary school joined in the scary celebrations to support our inclusion policy. We had a cooking session with the Occupational and Speech and Language Therapist, and made ‘creepy critters’ using cookie cutters and different vegetables and dips to create them! We also danced the ‘Skeleton Dance’ that we have been practising with the Physiotherapist. The finale was a visit from Animal Magic who brought in snakes, spiders, owls and many more creatures for us to hold and touch.

The Gruffalo - 14 July 2011

Our end of the year Drama Production was ‘The Gruffalo’. All the children dressed up as the Gruffalo and presented this production to their parents and families. The children’s hard work paid off in their beautiful singing. This was followed by a Gruffalo tea party for the children.

Annual Sport Day - 11 July 2011

Our Annual Sport Day was a great success with parents participating with their children. Events included: balloon volleyball, bean bag relay, egg and spoon obstacle course, scooter board relay, throwing activities, tunnel ball team game.The children were awarded with a sports medal at the end for their great achievements.

The Ugly Bug Ball - April 2011

We nurtured caterpillars in a collapsible habitat and watched them grow into beautiful butterflies. Our friends from Christchurch joined us for an ugly bug ball. We enjoyed lots of mini beast activities and finished the day with a butterfly releasing ceremony.

Community Police Visit - 24 March 2011

PSCO Steve the local police officer visited the school with Hayley our community police officer. The children were very excited to meet him, shake hands and learn about our community.

Chick Hatching - March 2011

We had 10 Embryo eggs delivered in an incubator 2-3 days from hatching. A Brooder box was provided which allowed the teachers and children easy observation and access to the chicks. The children enjoy watching the chicks grow and playing with them. We invited our friends from other schools to play with the chicks with us. Although after three weeks the chicks can either be kept or returned, this time one of our parents kept them all.

The Nutcracker - 17 December 2010

Our end of the year Christmas Concert was the Nutcracker, which was a great success. The girls dressed up as Sugar Plum Fairies and the boys as soldiers. This wonderful event was enjoyed by parents and family members of our children followed by a Christmas Party for the children and afternoon tea for all the visitors.

Logically Illogical - 15 December 2010

Frederick Hugh House hosted a talk by Roz Blackburn entitled ‘Logically Illogical’. Ros Blackburn is an adult with autism. The talk was attended by other schools and interested parties in the community.

Clapham Pottery - 3 November 2010

Our children enjoyed two mornings at Clapham Pottery where children are taught how to make and decorate pieces using a range of different techniques. They are encouraged to use their own ideas and create their own unique pottery piece. They all produced some beautiful masterpieces.

Richmond Park - 12 October 2010

The school went on an extra physical outing to Richmond Park. The children took the opportunity to kick through piles of leaves, run along the windy paths, roll in the grass and climb tree stumps.  We went on a treasure hunt to find as many different animals as possible, there were lots!

Chessington Adventure Park - 5 July 2010

The children enjoyed a fun day out at Chessington Adventure Park. We visited the zoo, explored the sea life and visited the theme parks where all the children and staff enjoyed the many rides on offer.

Occupational and Physiotherapy Workshop - 14 & 22 June 2010

Our Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist held a workshop at the school entitled: ‘Practical ideas for developing shoulder girdle strength and core stability for the school age child’. Invitations were extended to schools in the area.

Strictly Dance Workshop with Anton du Beke - 15 May 2010

We were delighted to welcome Anton du Beke and children from local schools who joined us for a ‘Strictly Dance Workshop’. All the children had a wonderful time and Anton showed us that it is not as easy as it looks on TV.
